Hello world!
Hi, I'm David Meents. I'm a self-taught software engineer from the Chicago area. I originally studied astrophysics, and while I didn't end up completing my degree, I have carried that curiosity and passion for learning with me throughout my 10+ years of writing code professionally.
After dropping out of college, I moved to Portland, Oregon and decided to pursue my childhood interests of programming, and computers in general. I began by freelancing, building websites with WordPress, designing logos, and managing marketing campaigns for local businesses. I eventually found my way into modern, JavaScript-based frontend development when I grew frustrated with the limitations of WordPress and the tedium of logo revisions.
My first professional job in this field was as an infrastructure engineer for a healthcare company. I've since worked as a full-stack, frontend, backend, and DevOps engineer across a variety of industries and roles. I'm currently a lead engineer at a large pharmaceutical company.
I'm blissfully married, play far too much Diablo, have an obnoxious number of board games, three adorable cats, and still (somehow) work on side projects - but most importantly, I am always looking to discover something new and share it with anyone wants to listen (...or read ...this is a blog).
Thanks again for taking the time to read this! If you have any content suggestions, feedback, questions, or just want to chat, you can send me an email at [email protected] or find me on Mastodon.
